On Monday this week, I went to see 2 classrooms full of year 6 kids (that's 10-year olds to people like me that still can't get their head around the system) to talk about careers. As part of that process, we played a game of "Guess my job".

I provided the following clues:
➡️ I've been working in this field since was 19 years old (that's 26 years)
➡️ I can do my job from anywhere - in fact, I was doing it from a McDonald's at 7am that morning ☕
➡️ My working hours are whenever I'm needed - sometimes during the day, but sometimes late at night and on the weekend
➡️ I have team mates that I work with every day in Sheffield, London, Manchester, Scotland, Poland, Spain, and America
The guesses were pretty good:
- Graphic designer (ok kid, let's not get too good too quick)
- Gymnast (okay...)
- Working on computers (very very good)
- and Taxi driver (from McDonald's??? okay makes sense if you mean picking someone up from McDonald's)
After figuring out that I work on computers and tech and "stuff", I then asked them what they thought my best subject at school was. One girl threw her hand up straight away - "Drama".
Darnit - they're on to me... 👀
We went on to discuss how acting and performance helped me develop the two core skills it takes for me to run my company - being able to talk to people and a whole bundle of bordering on annoying energy.
I absolutely loved the session and can't thank Amy Cooke at See it Be it in Sheffield enough for organising this one as not only did I have a lot of fun, but these kids were able to see that what you love doing at school, even if others might think it "not a career choice" can lead onto better things.
As a final treat everyone got to laugh at the god awful graduation photo from University of Winchester - who knew that "quirky" Dada fan girl reader of Kafka would end up running such an awesome team of geeks.
